About Team

The Sasol Solar Challenge Project, brings together a multidisciplinary team of motivated apprentices, technicians, and project mentors who share a passion for innovation, sustainability, and hands‑on engineering. Our team combines mechanical, electrical, and automation apprentices from various training years, supported by experienced engineers and project leads. This structure allows young talents to learn directly from industry professionals while contributing to an ambitious, real‑world engineering challenge. The project strengthens teamwork, problem‑solving skills, and technical competencies, offering participants an opportunity to shape a vehicle that embodies our collective values of sustainability and continuous improvement.

About Vehicle

Our vehicle, SER 6, is a streamlined, high‑efficiency, single‑seat solar racer designed for endurance, minimal energy consumption, and aerodynamic excellence. It is built on the foundation of the existing SER4 solar car, a well‑known platform developed with performance and lightweight construction in mind. The original car features a wide, flat solar array surface and a fully integrated aerodynamic fairing that minimizes drag and maximizes energy conversion during long‑distance solar challenges. Its structural layout is characteristic of a Challenger‑class solar car, with a stiff and lightweight monocoque‑style body that integrates the chassis and shell into a single optimized structure. By retaining the core body and major components while upgrading critical systems, we ensure the vehicle remains both efficient and resource‑friendly.
